Specific Sectors Lagging the AI Narrative
Broadcom (AVGO) trades at 28x forward earnings while Nvidia trades at 45x. Both benefit from the same secular trend. When Nvidia retraces 15-20%, Broadcom typically outperforms on the recovery because it has less froth. Applied Materials (AMAT) shows the same pattern—strong fundamentals, reasonable valuation, massive correlation to Nvidia moves but lower visibility in retail portfolios.
In my portfolio, I reduced concentrated Nvidia exposure from 12% to 7% in November and reallocated into AVGO at $161 and AMAT at $118. I am not betting against Nvidia. I am betting that the spread tightens when volatility hits.
What to Do Right Now
Run a concentration audit on your holdings. If your top 5 positions account for more than 50% of your AI allocation, you have a timing problem, not a strategy problem. Rebalance by selling 20-30% of your largest winners—Nvidia, Microsoft, Tesla—and rotate into second-tier AI beneficiaries that have stronger margins and lower valuation multiples. Broadcom, ASML, and Synopsys offer real exposure to AI infrastructure without the momentum bubble pricing.
Stop chasing the narrative. The AI supercycle is real. The stock prices reflecting that narrative are not. Your portfolio changed because the winners got larger, not because the winners got better.
